We all wonder what it would be like to dine at the White House. As heads of state sit down to a glittering well-appointed table, imagine the bustling activity in the kitchen as an army of chefs and staff prepare their elegant meal. Now, an award-winning restaurateur takes us behind the scenes of what is possibly the most famous kitchen in the world, in a unique cookbook that is also a food lover's history of 20th century America.  Secrets From The White House Kitchens gives home cooks the opportunity to recreate dishes favored by our First Families.

In an engaging series of essays, John R. Hanny shares insights on each presidential administration and how the man in office, and most particularly the First Lady, influences the ever-changing White House gastronomic style. The Roosevelts favored dishes rich in cream. Jacqueline Kennedy brought a worldly sensibility to the table. Both the Johnsons and the Carters entertained in legendary Southern style. Hillary Clinton created an uproar in gastronomic circles when she hired a chef specializing in light cuisine.

Easily followed recipes allow the reader to treat friends and family to dishes worthy of world leaders, many of which are prepared from readily available ingredients.

Whether you love the hearty country fare enjoyed by the Eisenhowers, or prefer the sophisticated haute cuisine served by the Reagans, Secrets From The White House Kitchens offers a wide range of delicious recipes that will make any occasion as special as a state function.
