The Editing Process

When you're ready to have an editor look at your manuscript, just send it on for a no-obligation evaluation by our professionals.

As soon as we receive the manuscript, an editor will read it and write her evaluation of the material and return it to the managing editor so that a contract may be drawn up.

Next, we'll send you the contract, a copy of the evaluation, and a sample book, so you can get an idea of how we'd proceed with publishing your work. If you decide to publish with us, you'll send in a signed contract along with the first payment, and the publishing process begins!

The manuscript first goes to a skilled copyeditor, who will work with you to polish the format and prose, and clean up any typographical errors, to get your book in the best shape possible.

Then the final version gets sent to a typesetter, who inputs any corrections into an electronic copy of the manuscript. After that, the book is ready to go into production.

A designer will lay out the book in galley form, and then send the galleys to you for your approval. Our designers will continue to communicate with you, and once you've given your input and agreed on a look for the book, the corrections will be input and our production department will produce final pages.

Once that's done, we're ready to design a cover. Our artists will come up with a cover design for the book, and again send it to you for your approval, ready to input any suggestions you might have. And as soon as you approve the final cover design, we're ready to go to press!

In six to eight weeks, a bound copy of the book will be approved at Hudson House Publishing. Right after that, you'll receive your entire order, of bound, beautifully designed copies of your book.
