What types of books are eligible for the cooperative plan?

Hudson House is always enthusiastic about new ideas, so we publish a wide variety of subject matter, from serious to humorous, politics to drama. We do not accept any material that is pornographic, racist, or libelous. Our editors will evaluate your manuscript. If it is accepted, you will receive a short, complimentary synopsis and recommendation.

What will I be required to pay?

The actual cost of publication depends on many variables. It is very difficult to provide a meaningful estimate. The cost depends on the number of copies and the size and type of book. When we receive and evaluate your manuscript, we will send you our Agreement which spells out our mutual expectations and costs in great detail. You can expect us to be competitive in the industry, and also to deliver the high-quality personal service our authors demand.

Do I have to pay the entire fee at one time?

Some people remit full payment with their contract. It provides them with some additional benefits, which we will discuss with you personally. Others prefer an installment payment schedule whereby upon signing the contract, they remit a portion of the total cost, and pay the remainder at pre-determined intervals during their books production. We will work with you.

Will your editors revise my manuscript and make changes?

Once your Agreement has been signed, our editors will carefully copyedit your manuscript for typographical, punctuation, and grammatical errors. Our goal is to help you make your manuscript read smoothly and clearly, and be free of error. We may suggest changes, but because it is your writing skill that has crafted the manuscript, we will not make any major changes to the text without consulting you. Our editorial staff will suggest ideas such as rewriting a sentence that is unclear, but no major revisions will be made to any part of your manuscript unless you have approved the change. Once your manuscript has been copyedited, you will receive typeset galleys for your approval.

Do I get royalties?

Hudson House's cooperative publishing plan includes paying the author ALL of the net revenue received from the sale of their books.

How many books do you typically print?

We will produce at least 250 copies of your book in the first printing. If your books sell out, we will inform you so you can make a decision on how many to reprint.
